Hello! I am a teacher candidate in the BEd program at UNBC in Prince George, on the territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. I came to UNBC for my undergrad right out of high school. I did my undergrad in English with a double minor in General Business and First Nations Studies. Prior to UNBC, I lived on Vancouver Island for 10 years. I lived in Shawnigan Lake, which is the territory of the Cowichan Peoples. Shawnigan Lake is about 30 min north of Victoria. I chose to come back up to Prince George for university because I lived here when I was a kid so I know the area and I have a lot of family up here. It has always felt like home to me and I came back as often as I could.

When I am not in school, I like to be outside and attempt to walk my dog Bear. He is not the best walker, we are still learning 4 years in. Bear is a 5-pound Yorkie (yes, I know he’s tiny and his name is Bear. My sister named him). I also like to read, bake and listen to music. I’ve been involved with music for most of my life either through singing, playing the clarinet, piano or a little bit of guitar. I really like ice cream but I don’t have a favourite flavour. One thing I would like to do more of is travel both in Canada and internationally. My family is important to me as well. I grew up with my mom and twin sister. My 10-year old cousin is also one of my favourite people in the world because we spent the first 5 years of her life basically inseparable. My entire family is pretty close with each other and gets together a lot throughout the year.

There are teachers in my family and I have been interested in teaching for a long time.  I really like the primary elementary grades but have worked with kids from K-7.  I have worked with the UNBC Active Minds program for 3 years now running summer camps and doing various forms of youth outreach. I am very excited to go through the BEd program to become an elementary school teacher!
